Ingredients

1) 1 cup Millet
2) 2 cups water
3) 1 tsp oil
4) 1/2 tsp salt

Total Ingredients : 4

Method

1) Firstly take a large bowl, put Millet to it. Add water and rinse Millet well a couple of times and drain it.

2) Take a large pan, Add water to it. Bring it to hot boiling water. Add Millet to the boiled water. Then add salt and oil to it, to make Millet fluffy.

3)  When it gets heated, you may notice foamy scum floating on the  surface of the boiled millet, spoon out the excess scum from millet. Then Cover the pot with lid. Cook it for 15-20 minutes. Millet will absorb the water, get fluffed up and cooked.

4) Off the gas flame and take off the pan or pot and cool it for 10 minutes.

5) Fluff the Millet with spoon. Nutrition Rich, light, cooked Millet is ready to be eaten.

A- No, it is not Needed to soak Millet before cooking. But some people do prefer to soak Millet as they believe that soaking will increase the absorption of nutrients present in millets and improves the digestion of it.


Q- How long should I soak millets before cooking?

A- The time for soaking millets depends upon which 'Type' the Millet is. Normally millets are soaked for about 3-8 hours, some even soak them for overnight. There is Millet of type 'Barnyard', which does not need to be soaked for more than 30minutes, however there is Millet type ' Pearl', which needs more time to soak.


Q- What is the ratio of water to millet?

A- To Cook millets the quantity of water needed is twice the millets, so Millet to water ratio is 1:2, for 1cup millets take 2 cups water to cook.
